The largest adult i-gel, Size 5 is for patients over 90 kg (200+ lb). It also has the most capacity of the adult sizes: its gastric channel takes a nasogastric tube up to 14 FG, compared with 12 FG for Sizes 3 and 4, and it will pass a tracheal tube up to 8.0 mm when used as a conduit for fiberoptic intubation.
An epiglottic rest reduces the chance of the epiglottis folding down and obstructing the airway, and a standard 15 mm connector attaches to a bag-valve device or breathing circuit. Size selection is by patient weight; for a patient near the boundary between sizes, follow Intersurgical’s guidance and your clinical judgment. Single-use, for trained airway providers only.
